Platinum Sponsor Highlight

As we reach the end of the year, we wanted to highlight some of the people that helped make the CCC Games happen.

Hayley Sellick | Marketing & Communications

We are generously supported each year by a number of sponsors, so in today's post, we wanted to take some time to chat with our three Platinum Sponsors - TC Energy, Nutrien and Canadian Pacific!

TC Energy - 25 Year Platinum Sponsor

TC Energy is a Calgary-based energy company, with operations through Canada, the United States and Mexico. They have been a sponsor of Calgary Corporate Challenge right from day one, so this year, we're celebrating our 25-year partnership! One of the big reasons we like working with them is their commitment to Community Involvement. Through Empower (their workforce giving campaign), they encourage their workforce to give back to communities that resonate with them personally. Since the pandemic was declared in March, TC Energy has contributed more than $3.8 million in donations to organizations responding to the crisis, including more than $592,000 contributed by their workforce. On top of this, in lieu of a holiday party, employees were given funds to donate to a cause they care about.

We spoke to their Company Captain team - Eve A, Hannah K, Samantha H and Travis W - about their involvement with Calgary Corporate Challenge:

What do you think is the best aspect of participating with Calgary Corporate Challenge?
Eve- I think the best part comes with two answers for me: having the chance to meet people within TC who I may never get a chance to work with or even know and getting the chance to meet people in other companies.
Hannah- Promoting for our company, getting to know and help out charities, as well as collaborating with coworkers.
Samantha- Having the chance to meet people within TC who I don't normally work with. I also like seeing the difference that we can all make within our community with the Charity Challenge.

What is your favourite CCC memory?

Hannah - The Big Bike challenge, because it was fun!

Eve - Letting a participant who signed up only for Mini Golf be on the team; she did amazing and we even brought home Silver that year for that event.

Travis - It’s a bit of an odd one. When I was an intern at TC Energy, I participated in the CCC Ultimate Frisbee event at the Soccer Centre. During one of the games, I skinned my shin but kept on playing because I was having so much fun playing. I wore it like a badge of honour (even though I think TC lost that game)! As for a more conventional one, after having record participation in both the sporting events and Charity Challenges, TC Energy got first place in the Orange division for the first time in more than a decade. It was amazing to hold up that first-place trophy with my co-workers on stage!

Is there anything else you'd like to share with CCC participants?

Travis - I have never medaled in any CCC event in 8 years, but I keep trying for one each year!

Nutrien - 21 Year Platinum Sponsor

Nutrien's purpose is to grow our world from the ground up. As the world’s largest provider of crop inputs, services and solutions, Nutrien plays a critical role in feeding the future by helping growers to increase food production in a sustainable manner. A few weeks ago, they were chosen as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, partly thanks to their strong Community Involvement. CCC is just one of more than 2,300 charities and community organizations in the past year that Nutrien has supported.

Mike Pascoe is the Wellness Coordinator at Nutrien and has been one of the Company Captains there for the last few years:

What do you think is the best aspect of participating with Calgary Corporate Challenge?

Employee engagement.

What is your favourite CCC memory?

In 2019, competing in darts with a number of people from my team at Nutrien that had never participated before. We were there to just have fun and that took the competitive part out of things. It worked so well to bring us all together.

Is there anything else you'd like to share with CCC participants?

Let the standings be fifth to fun, participation, collaboration and engagement.

Canadian Pacific - 20 Year Platinum Sponsor

Incorporated in 1881, Canadian Pacific (CP) was formed to physically unite Canada and Canadians from coast to coast and the building of the railway is considered to be one of Canada's greatest feats of engineering. Today CP is a transcontinental railway in Canada and the United States with direct links to major ports on the west and east coasts. Through their 'CP Has Heart' initiative, Canadian Pacific has helped raise over $20.5 million to improve the heart health of men, women and children of North America. CP has been a sponsor of CCC since the beginning; as one of the inaugural companies, they've supported at varying levels, ranging from event sponsor to equipment supplier and as a Platinum sponsor for the last 20 years.

We spoke to Bonnie Blakely - Company Captain at CP (and the current Chair on our Board of Directors!):

What do you think is the best aspect of participating with Calgary Corporate Challenge?

For CP, the CCC Games are all about the people. It gives our employees a chance to meet and engage with people from other companies in unique settings and it’s a great opportunity to showcase some of our own company pride.

What is your favourite CCC memory?

Winning the division championship after many years of working to be better.  Having a small army show up to collect the trophy at the Closing Ceremonies and then walking around Calgary like we won the Stanley Cup!

Is there anything else you'd like to share with CCC participants?

The sense of camaraderie the games create within a company is unrivalled. There is nothing that compares to getting together with coworkers and feeling like being part of something bigger than your company and facing robust but friendly competition. Regardless of the outcome of the games, the ties that coworkers forge competing against other companies last for years.

A big thank you to our three Platinum Sponsors for their support this year!
